SIKESTON - Two new business establishments and three new residences, that will cost an estimated $22,500, will be erected for Sikeston people in the near future.
SIKESTON - Farmers who want to be considered for a new farm allotment for the 1967 crop of winter wheat on a farm that does not have a 1966 wheat allotment are urged to contact the New Madrid County ASCS office during the next few weeks.
SIKESTON - Coal bound for the Sikeston Power Plant was being unloaded Friday afternoon at the St. Jude Industrial Park on the Mississippi River. According to Bill Pinnell, director of the New Madrid County Port Authority, a "test run" was under way by Pry Mining of Kentucky to ship in the coal by barge, which then will be trucked to Sikeston for use.

SIKESTON - Approximately 10,000 prisoners eat, sleep and live a huddled existence in the confines of Missouri's eight prisons. Incarceration at its best or its worst? The idea: rather than send them up, boot them out into the real world of labor and reward in a pilot community service program starting July 1. Glen Duckworth, district supervisor of the Board of Probation and Parole in Sikeston, said it just may be the best answer to rehabilitation, to slashing prison costs and overcrowding.
BENTON - Election officials from Scott County recently completed a four-day training session in Springfield on how to use new electronics software, which will greatly modernize and standardize elections management. Attending the session were Scott County Clerk Rita Milam and Dawn Buchanan.
