MARQUAND - Hugh Lambert Woods, 87, died June 14, 2005, at Madison Memorial Hospital in Fredericktown.
Born Aug. 20, 1917, at Hunter, son of the late Otto and May Lambert Woods, he grew up in Bollinger County. Serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot instructor during World War II, he and his brother established Woods Lumber Company in Portageville after the war. A former member of Glen Allen Methodist Church, he was also a member of First Baptist Church in Portageville, where he was a deacon, RA leader, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. When he moved to Marquand, he joined the First Baptist Church in Fredericktown.
On Feb. 15, 1942, he married Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Upchurch, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lorraine Woods of New Zealand; one daughter, Judith Ann Trittler of Kirkwood; three sisters, Dean Peters of Portageville, LaVerne Upchurch of Glen Allen, and Ruth Chenoweth of Cape Girardeau; and one grandchild and two great-
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Woods; one sister, Helen Spence; and his son-in-law, Larry Trittler.
Services were conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Follis and Sons Funeral Home in Fredericktown.
Burial followed in Bollinger County Memorial Park at Marble Hill.
