SIKESTON - Lester Stafford, 91, formerly of Portageville and Matthews, died at 12:40 p.m. Feb. 16, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Dec. 8, 1913, in Portageville, son of the late John and Myrtle Stafford, he had lived and farmed in the Portageville and Matthews areas before moving to Sikeston, where he was a member of Tanner Street Church of God.
On Feb. 18, 1938, in Portageville, he married Bernice Jackson who preceded him in death on July 27, 1978. He married Pearl Lewis on Nov. 26, 1979, in Sikeston and she preceded him in death on June 3, 2000.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Don Underwood of Portageville; two grandchildren and their spouses, Donnie and Justa Underwood of Portageville and Dianna and Craig Genteman of Ozark; four great-grandchildren, Josh Underwood, Drew Underwood, Luke Genteman and Shelby Genteman; one brother, D.C. Stafford of Anderson, Ind.; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, David and Margaret Ann Lewis of Anderson and Don and Kathy Lewis of Columbia; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Bill Moll of San Antonio; and eight stepgrandchildren and 13 stepgreat-
Two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tanner Street Church of God with the Rev. Carl Addison, pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Larry Smith, associate pastor of the church.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
