MATTHEWS- Walter Lyman Whitten, 88, died at 9:20 p.m. April 19, 2005, at his home.

Born July 31, 1916, in Sikeston to the late John Lawrence and Francis Gardner Whitten, he was a lifelong resident of the Matthews and Sikeston area.

On Nov. 22, 1942, at Charleston, he married Jewell Latham, who survives.

Also surviving are: two sons and daughters-in-law, John Lyman and Joy Whitten of Sikeston and Danny Joe "Pete" and Leslie Whitten of Matthews; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Deene Ann Ford of Matthews, Rosetta and Keith Colley of Sikeston, Cherie and Jerry Wilson of East Prairie and Rita and Bill Jakes of Old Hickory, Tenn.; and 13 grandchildren and 12 great-

grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Edward Wells, pastor of the first Christian Church at Matthews, will officiate.

Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Johnny Whitten, Jason Whitten, Jacob Higgins, Mike Whitten Ford, Peter Lawrence Whitten, Drew Dollar, Bryan Jakes and Bay Dollar.

Honorary pallbearers will be Amy Whitten Roche, Alison Whitten, Sara Jane Ford, Jessica Dollar Belanger and Georgia Jakes.
