CHARLESTON -- A Charleston resident sustained fatal injuries after his vehicle struck a house Saturday in Mississippi County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 11:40 a.m. Saturday, five miles south of Charleston, Dustin L. Smoot, 20, of Charleston was traveling on Route UU at Route D when he failed to stop at the intersection. The vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a road sign, vaulted a ditch and struck a house. Smoot was pronounced dead at the scene by Mississippi County coroner Terry Parker and was transported to McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
In another fatal accident Saturday, at 6:28 p.m. in Dexter, eastbound motorist Jeffrey W. Dudley, 37, of Dexter was traveling on West Market Street at North Walnut, when his vehicle left the roadway on the south side and traveled up onto multiple piles of chat. The vehicle began to roll and Dudley's passenger, James R. Jenkins, 47, of Dexter was ejected from the vehicle.
Jenkins was pronounced dead at Missouri Southern Healthcare and taken to Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Turn to Page 5 for funeral arrangements.
