SIKESTON - Pvt. Robert L. Mitchell, formerly a Sikeston boy, has been enrolled in the Army Airforce Training Command's basic airplane and engine mechanic's course at Keesler Field, near Biloxi, Miss.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bootheel Babe Ruth baseball league's All-Star team begins district tournament play tonight against Dexter and Bonne Terre. Team members are: Keith Jackson, Tim Prince, Kris Mooney, Stacey Deal, Mike Witt, Derek Samples, Michael Knight, Rick Hawkins, Gary Rinehard, Jeff Dacus, Wesley Hankins, Jim Loflin, Donnie Brown, Darren Robinson Allan Mauk, Jeff Williams, Brian Price and Jamie Frakes. Coach is Mike Ivie and assistant coach is Ted Mauk.
SIKESTON - With only three weeks until the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, Jaycees are working to prepare the grounds. Jaycee Tim Merideth has taken on the job of placing numbers on their new aluminum bleachers. Over half of the tickets for the August 9-12 rodeo have already been sold.

SIKESTON - Ricky Fodge, 13, won the honor of catching the largest fish during the annual Elks Lodge 2319 Fishing Derby. Fodge's catch weighed in at 5 pounds and 4 ounces.
