CHAFFEE - Agnes Jewell Montgomery, 85, died at 5:45 p.m. June 28, 2005, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.
Born Nov. 22, 1919, in Swifton, Ark., to the late Dewitt and Ethel Myra King Rowlett, she was a school teacher with the Chaffee Hill Top School and later a machine operator for Chaffee Sports Specialty Shoe Co. before becoming the owner of the Gas-A-Mat in Chaffee. A member of the General Baptist Church in Chaffee, she was a member of the Chaffee SOS Club also.
On Jan. 15, 1940, she married Evert Paul Montgomery, who preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1986. Also four brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Survivors include: five sons, Homer Montgomery of Jackson, Cecil Montgomery and Larry Montgomery of Kelso, Robert Montgomery of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Steve Montgomery of Chaffee; two daughters, Nancy Michelsen of Oran and Martha Jane McMillian of Park Hills; one brother, Warren Rowlett of Swifton, Ark.; three sisters, Mabel Hubbard of Tuckerman, Ark., and Lola Lovelace and Esther Erickson of Jonesboro, Ark.; and 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee where funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Vyron Yount will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Union Park Cemetery at Chaffee.
