JACKSON -- The Sikeston High School varsity volleyball team evened its overall record at 1-1 Wednesday after sweeping Saxony Lutheran 25-15, 25-20.
"We learned tonight that we can not take any opponents lightly," Sikeston coach Steve Beydler said. "There were too many long rallies that could have gone either way."
For Sikeston, it was only its second match of the season which began on Aug. 27. The Lady Bulldogs were playing their first game after an eight-day layoff.
Rachel Beydler, Kaitlyn Underwood and Destinee Walker each served three aces for SHS. Beydler was 10-of-10 at the serving line, while Underwood was 11-
of-11 and Walker was 6-of-9.
Martika Davis, who went without a kill during Sikeston's season-opening loss to Bernie, led the Lady Bulldogs with eight. Underwood added five kills and Beydler had three.
Davis was also Sikeston's top blocker with six, while Underwood chipped in four more.
Beydler had 17 assists from her position at setter.
Sikeston is back in action Friday, when it participates in the BA Sports Classic at Southeast Missouri State University.
