Investigation leads to a second arrest

EAST PRAIRIE - An ongoing drug investigation has led officers from Scott County into Mississippi County.

The SEMO Drug Task Force reported Billie James Martin, also known as "Bear," is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. Martin is being held in the Mississippi County Jail, where bond is set at $100,000 on the drug charges.

Task Force officers and the East Prairie Police executed a search warrant at the Martin Pecan Street residence in East Prairie on Wednesday evening. Officers recovered approximately seven grams of "Ice" methamphetamine, $12,134.00 in cash and assorted drug paraphernalia.

According to a news release from the Drug Task Force their began with information being received about the distribution of methamphetamine in the Scott County area. On Tuesday, officers from the SEMO Drug Task Force, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety Special Operations Group, Scott County Sheriff's Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration served the search warrant at the residence occupied by David Hedge. This search resulted in the recovery of approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine and $1,700.00. Hedge was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

According to the Task Force, more arrests are expected.

Martin is scheduled for arraignment on the charges at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 12.
