BLOOMFIELD - Elvis Layton, 82, died June 19, 2005, at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter.
Born April 9, 1923, at Bloomfield to the late Albert and Elsie Grace Layton, he spent most of his life in the Bloomfield community and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He worked several years at H and H Lumber Co. in Morehouse and had worked for Bennett Chicken Farms and for the city of Bloomfield. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
On April 1, 1946, he married Dorthy Jean Brannon, who preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 1998.
Also one son, Elvis Lee Layton; one daughter, Carmella Layton; five brothers; and three sisters preceded him in death.
Survivors include: three sons, Johnny Layton of Bloomfield, J.A. Layton of Augusta, Ga., and Michael Layton of Dexter; four daughters, Lisa Ann Layton and Lottie Jean Scroggins of Bloomfield, Nancy Bell Hartlein of Honduras and Betty Sue Layton of Claremore, Okla.; and one sister, Wanda Jarrels of Bloomfield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Revs. Kevin Eskew and Dale Hartlein will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Link Cemetery near Bloomfield with full military rites provided by the Stoddard County Honor Guard.
