ORAN - Floyd R. McConnell, 88, died at 3:45 a.m., Feb. 24, 2007, at his son's home in Scott City.

Born Oct. 13, 1918, in Cabot, Ark., son of the late Eddie Cleveland and Buleah Stephenson McConnell, he was owner and operator of McConnell's Garage for 44 years and was a member of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran. A member of the Morley VFW Post No. 5368, he was a 50-year member of the Cape Girardeau Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 16. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II for which he received the Bronze Star with the Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

On Jan. 30, 1940, he married Sylvia M. Hooker who preceded him in death on May 29, 2006.

He was also preceded him in death by one daughter-in-law, Lynda McConnell; and three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Merlin and Johnetta McConnell of Scott City and Eddie and Rebecca McConnell of Oran; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Paul and Ruby McConnell and Louis McConnell of Dexter; four grandchildren and their spouses, Van and Angela McConnell of Oran, Ginger and Brent Rampley of Benton, Lance and Cindy McConnell of Jackson and Tim and Lesli McConnell of Scott City; two stepgrandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Richard Scherer of Benton and Lorena and Steve Gehardt of Oran; and seven great-grandchildren, Paige Rampley, Jade Rampley and Ty Rampley of Benton, Jacob McConnell of Jackson, Drew McConnell of Scott City and Molly McConnell and Mac McConnell of Oran.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. today at the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran. The Rev. John Harth officiated.

Burial with full military rites will be at 3 p.m. today in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.

Pallbearers were: Lance McConnell, Tim McConnell, Van McConnell, Mac McConnell, Jacob McConnell, Brent Rampley and Ty Rampley.

The Amick-Burnett Funeral Home of Chaffee was in charge of arrangements.
