SIKESTON -- Velma Ruth James, 88, died Dec. 13, 2007, at the Bertrand Retirement Home.
Born Dec. 17, 1918, in Wyatt, daughter of the late John Euriel "J.E." and Nellie Ward Hinton, she was a housewife and a member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ.
On May 16, 1941, at Flat River, she married Jacob Rance "J.R." James who preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 2003.
Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jim Elliott of Sikeston; one sister, Wanda McDaniel of Joliet, Ill.; one grandson and his spouse, Jay and Jennifer Elliott of Sikeston; one granddaughter and her spouse, Leigh and Dan Holland of Sikeston; one great-grandson, Jesse Holland of Sikeston; and one great-granddaughter, Makala Elliott of Sikeston.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Pat Hogan, pastor of the Shady Acres Church of Christ, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
