Roundup: SHS swept in track dual at Poplar Bluff

POPLAR BLUFF - The Sikeston boys and girls track and field was swept in a dual meet on Tuesday at Poplar Bluff.

The boys team fell 97-49 while the girls team lost 75-66.

On the boys side, Sikeston got a first place finish in the 4 x 100 meter relay race and Felante Larry was a double winner in the long and triple jumps. Sikeston also got first place finishes from Trey Stone in the pole vault and Taylor Old in the discus.

Bulldog freshman Brandon Wright had a second place finish in the 400 and freshman Brandon Washington took third in the 100 meter dash.

On the girls side, Jacqueline Nance and Jelisa Robinson took first and second in the 100 meter hurdles.

Nance and Robinson also took first and second in the 300 meter hurdles.

Chasmon Herrion and Applewhite took first and second in the 100 meter dash.

Freshman Martika Davis and Berneatress Hunt took first and third in the long jump.

Sikeston took first in the 4 x 100, 4 x 200 and 4x 400 meter relays.

Deneka Black and Whitney Turner took first and second in the 400 meter dash.

Applewhite and Nance took second and third in the 200 meter dash.

Traci Jackson took third in the 800 meter run. Newman and Davis took second and third in the triple jump.

Demonia took first in the 1600 meter run.


Jackson 11, Chaffee 3

CHAFFEE - The Jackson baseball team remained undefeated by breaking open a one-run game with a nine-run seventh inning en route to an 11-3 victory at Chaffee.

Jackson (6-0) recorded six of its eight hits in the seventh inning.

Joel Penrod notched the win, allowing four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out four. Kyle Brown finished up for his second save.

Rex Meyer was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Jackson. Chris Hanback had two hits for Chaffee.

Bell City (2-0) led just 5-2 game after four innings but scored 11 runs over the next two innings to ensure a win on the road.

Cody Bailey picked up the win on the mound and finished with five RBIs on two doubles. D.D. Gillespie added three hits and three RBIs. Kerry Lasters and Garrett McIntyre had two hits apiece. Nick Niemczyk added three RBIs.
