Sikeston gets big road win

POPLAR BLUFF -- The Sikeston soccer team earned a tough road victory at Poplar Bluff Tuesday evening 3-1.

"This was a big conference win for us, especially going over there to their field" said Sikeston head coach Derrick Long.

Sikeston opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Jordan Davis scored on an assist from Stephen Beydler.

Poplar Bluff then answered in the 32nd minute on a penalty kick to even the score 1-1 at the half.

Sikeston took over the game in the second half as Cody Anderson scored on an assist from Justin Deere in the 56th minute to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage.

The Bulldogs added an insurance goal in the 70th minute when Dakota Trevino scored on an assist from Darin Dicus.

Sikeston goalie Scott Droddy collected 15 saves on the night as the Bulldogs outshot the Mules 18-16.

"I think our offense is starting to pick it up,"Long said. It's nice to get three goals and I hope it carries over to today in DeSoto."

The Sikeston junior varsity team lost to Poplar Bluff 1-0.

Sikeston (5-6) will travel to play DeSoto today. The junior varsity game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
