DEXTER - Virgil Lee Gilkey, 73, died Sept. 16, 2007, at the Cypress Point Nursing Center in Dexter.
Born April 23, 1934, in Danville, Ark., to the late Joseph Virgil and Bessie Freeman Gilkey, he had lived in Dexter for the past 30 years. He was a retired insurance agent and attended the Baptist Church.
On Sept. 19, 1953, in Bernie, he married Ola Faye Gaines, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis and Becky Gilkey of Festus and Micheal Gilkey of Lawrence, Kan.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Bresee and Sandra and Dale Griffin of Dexter and Karen Gilkey of Lawrence; one brother James Gilkey of Mohilo, Ark.; one sister, Earlene Toole of Gideon; and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene Gilkey, Charles Gilkey and Roy Gilkey; and two sisters, Sue Allen and Evelyn Gilkey; and one great-granddaughter, Rachel Bresee.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. The Rev. Mike Watkins of Dexter will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter.
