It's rodeo time and that means the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce's 11th Annual Redneck Barbecue is right around the corner on Saturday, Aug. 13.
The barbecue contest and related events will be held at the Sikeston Sports Complex around the Clinton Building. We will have teams from out-of-state and from Southeast Missouri competing. The Quilters Guild will be hosting a Quilt Show in the Clinton Building all weekend and if you missed the show two years ago you need to come out and see their amazing work.
The schedule for the barbecue includes a craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Civil War Re-Enactment at 12:30 p.m., the Redneck Dog Show at 1:30 p.m. and Chicken Chuckin' Contest at 2 p.m. There will be musical entertainment taking place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and kids' games such as cookie stacking, potato sack races, potato golf, three-legged race and egg race, beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing into the afternoon.
There will be barbecue sandwiches, Dip-n-Dots, snow cones, chips, sodas and more.
The barbecue competition itself will begin at 8 a.m. with the winners announced around 3:30 p.m. The barbecue categories are ribs, chicken and the famous wuz-zat which is basically anything you can do on a grill. Don't forget there is a kid's barbecue competition also beginning at 10 a.m. with hamburger and chicken categories.
I would like to thank our trophy and prize sponsors, Bob Ralph Distributing, Mitchell Insurance, Louie Griffin and Kelpro. I would like to also thank Pepsi, Riggs, G&K, Burch Food, Kohlfeld Distributing, Bluff City Beer and the Sikeston Jaycees for their donations to the event.
If you are looking for something to do with your out-of-town guests, friends and family join us at the barbecue for a day full of fun and good food.
