SIKESTON - The combined efforts of four fire departments were necessary Saturday to extinguish one of the worst fires in the history of Sikeston. Cheatham's Furniture Store, located at 121 N. New Madrid St., was nearly destroyed after a fire of undetermined origin started early Saturday morning. Because the fire began during the annual event - and at one of the busiest times - the increased activity caused the firemen difficulty when they first arrived at the scene.
