PARROTTSVILLE, Tenn. - The Rev. Lawrence E. Ray, 97, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died Sept. 29, 2005, at the Newport Health and Rehabilitation Center in Newport.
Born Sept. 12, 1908, in Bernie, Mo., son of the late Audie and Estella Owens Ray, he had been a member of the Sikeston First Baptist Church where he was a deacon and ordained. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newport and was a retired Baptist minister having pastored churches in Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee for 72 years.
He was married to Mary Stuppy Ray who preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Billie Fair; and two sisters, two brothers and one grandson.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Betty Ray of Pittsburg, Penn.; one daughter, Betty Jones of Newport; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Newport where services will follow at 4 p.m. with his grandson, the Rev. Lawrence Jones, and Rich Lloyd officiating.
Visitation will continue from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Garden of Memories Cemetery with the Rev. Jones officiating.
