NEW MADRID - Jessie Newson, 76, formerly of North Lilbourn, died Aug. 27, 2005, at the home of his daughter.
Born Nov. 10, 1928, in Tate County, Miss., to the late Willie Dean and Irine Lyons Newson, he had lived in Missouri for 50 years. A member of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Lilbourn, he was the president and guitarist for the singing group, "The Wandering Five," and was a retired printer for the Standard Democrat in Sikeston.
On Feb. 24, 1945, he married Annie B. Woods, who preceded him in death on March 4, 1984.
Survivors include: seven daughters, Jessie Farr with whom he lived and Juanita Wigfall of New Madrid, Lillie Newson, Annie Newson and Joann Farr of Lilbourn, Melissa Wigfall of Dade City, Fla., and Henrietta Frazier of Palm Bay, Fla.; four sons, Jessie Newson Jr. of Howardville, Tommy Newson of Lilbourn, Jonathan Samelton of Dade City and Curtis Newson of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Robert Newson of Chicago; four sisters, Mollie Rucker of New Madrid, Hattie B. Pratcher of Elkhart, Ind., Alma Sawberry of Coldwater, Miss., and Georganna Garrett of Senatobia, Miss.; and 46 grandchildren, 88 great-
grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Williams Funeral Home in Howardville. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Life New Beginning World Outreach Center in Lilbourn with the Rev. J.D. Foster officiating.
Burial will be in Simmons Park Cemetery.
