On Friday Montgomery Bank $500,000 from Montgomery Bank toward the construction of the expanded YMCA facilities. The YMCA Board of Directors began fund raising for the expansion April 30.
"Montgomery Bank believes in giving back to the community and we see the great things the YMCA has done for youth and families. We must help strengthen our community in every way. We have been a strong supporter of the YMCA since its inception and are excited about this project and what it will do for Sikeston and the surrounding communities" said Troy Wilson, CEO of Montgomery Bank.
"We are very appreciative of Montgomery Bank's generous support," said Tom Robison, chairman of the YMCA Board of Directors. "This is a communitywide effort and we hope this gift will inspire others to be a part of this campaign."
The Montgomery Bank gift is the second $500,000 gift pledged to the YMCA expansion project. Earlier this month, the Sikeston Jaycees pledged the same amount to the effort.
The expansion includes the renovation of the existing building on Tanner Street as well as additional construction. The design for the expansion, which can be completed in two phases, calls for an enlarged youth center which will include a computer lab and a rock-climbing wall. There will be an area for aerobics, expanded fitness center along with an indoor walking/jogging track.
An indoor pool would provide water-park facilities along with the opportunity to offer swimming lessons year-round, water exercise on-site and swimming.
A nursery area would be expanded and several multi-purpose rooms and transition areas are part of the planned expansion.
