CARUTHERSVILLE - A man is in custody after threatening a police officer and a sheriff's deputy.
At approximately 8:10 p.m. Saturday, a Caruthersville police officer was called to a residence on Washington Street to assist a subject who was moving personal belongings from the residence of an ex-roommate. While the officer was outside the residence, he noticed a 45-year-old man, who was apparently intoxicated and became belligerent toward the officer and the man removing items from the residence.
When a Pemiscot County deputy arrived on the scene to assist the officer, the man stated he had a gun behind his back and would shoot and kill the officers. The officers ordered the man to take his hands from behind his back. When the subject refused the officers' orders, they began to move toward the man. The man told the officers to stop or he would shoot and kill them.
As the officers then grabbed the man, an open pocketknife fell from his back waistband. The man was handcuffed and taken to the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department.
The man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.
