SIKESTON - Sikeston people will pause Sunday to pay tribute to their soldier dead with a Memorial Day program sponsored by Henry Meldrum Post of the American Legion. While May 30 is Memorial Day, Legion officers decided to hold their ceremonies and observations on Sunday in order that all might be able to participate.
SIKESTON - Clean up, Paint up, Fix up Week in Sikeston starts Friday with a parade beginning at 4:15 p.m. The week of May 23-28 has been proclaimed by Mayor Kendall Sikes as Clean up, Paint up and Fix up Week. The Junior High School Band will join the parade downtown Friday.
SIKESTON - The Honors Assembly was held yesterday at Senior High School band shell before the entire student body. In charge of the outdoor event was Roger Sherman, high school principal.

SIKESTON - The Daily Standard is once again reprinting Friday's edition because of the continuing requests for that publication. Those from the first reprint were quickly sold early this morning leading to the decision to reprint the edition, according to Daily Standard Publisher-General Manager Richard Esposito. Included in the reprint will be two photo pages from Sunday's edition concerning the tornado and cleanup operations.

SIKESTON -Local and area law enforcement officials urge residents to be on the lookout for fraudulent home improvement firms this summer. "We're always concerned about fly-by-nighters, individuals who come to town with very little expertise," said Doug Friend, director of public works. "If it looks to good to be true, it probably is." Stoddard County Sheriff Steve Fish warned residents to be suspicious of anyone who offers to do an expensive job for an unusually low price.
