SIKESTON -- Charles Walter Chesmore, 75, died at 4:20 p.m. on May 18, 2006, at his home.
Born March 18, 1931, at Perkins, Okla., son of the late Dave Clinton and Leona E. Smith Chesmore, he served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa during the Korean War and was discharged as a sergeant first class on April 13, 1955, after four years of service overseas. Since 1957, he had lived in Sikeston where he worked for 10 years in the maintenance department for Sikeston Public Schools until his retirement and was a member of the Beulahland Fellowship Church. He had previously worked for 27 years for the Missouri Plant Food Association and for the Otasco store in Sikeston.
On Dec. 27, 1957, he married Sarah E. Britt who preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 2002.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bill Chesmore, and one sister, Ruby Gray.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Charles J. "Chuck" and Krystal Chesmore of Sikeston; one brother, Clifford Chesmore of Stillwater, Okla.; and two granddaughters, Mikaela Chesmore and Harley Chesmore of Sikeston.
Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Sutton of the New Life Ministries Church in Sikeston officiating.
Burial of the cremains will follow in the Blodgett Cemetery at Blodgett.
