CARUTHERSVILLE - A 6-year-old boy is recovering after being attacked by a dog.
Caruthersville Police were called to 609 W. Fifth Street at 2:10 p.m. Sunday in response to a report of a animal attack. Christian Morgan told officers he was playing in his front yard when the dog attacked him. As the child attempted to get away from the dog he was bitten on the face and eye.
According to a news release from the Caruthersville Police Department the dog was killed while attacking the child. The dog's body was turned over to the Caruthersville Humane Officer to be tested for rabies.
The dog's owner, William Bell of Caruthersville, now faces charges in connection with the incident.
The child was taken to the Hayti Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
