Born Feb. 24, 1930, in St. Louis, to the late Horace S. and Hazel Belle Hatfield Hill, he was a farmer and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He went to St. Denis Elementary School in Benton, was a 1947 graduate of Morley High School and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston.
On Aug. 24, 1958, at Benton, he married Evelyn Pearson who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Joe Hill Jr. of Benton; five daughters, Sherry McGruder of Patton, Charlotte Griffin of Morley, Kim Harms and Donna Alvey of Cape Girardeau and Sarah Hill of Longview, Texas; one sister, Geraldine Keifer of St. Peters; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Hill; and two sisters, Virginia Farley and Frances Carlisle.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Church with the Rev. Scott Sunnenberg, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Morley.
