As the staff partner for this year's American Cancer Society Relay for Life, I would like to thank the residents of Scott County for their generosity and support. Twenty teams participated in this year's event, raising more than $60,000 for the American Cancer Society's research, education, advocacy, patient service programs. The outstanding support received proves that the people of Scott County are truly committed to the fight against cancer.
I want to applaud the cancer survivors who participated in the opening lap and survivor ceremony. They are the reason we continue the fight, because each year there can be more and more people living wonderful lives following a diagnosis of cancer.
A special thanks to the many Relay for Life volunteers who worked to make this event a success. The Relay for Life committee did an outstanding job of putting the event together. Committee members included Julie Heppe, Teresa Bye, Mike and Cindie McReynolds, Rachelle Johnson, Melissa Ensor, Vanetta Sindle, Vivian Johnson, Kelly Carraway, Soozi Hovis and Pam Yant.
We also appreciate the generosity of this year's corporate sponsors. Relay for Life would not be possible without them. Our corporate sponsors included: Americare, Montgomery Bank, First Security State Bank, Dr. Daniel Obermark, Bethesda Center, US Bank, Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, Visiting Nurse Association, Sikeston Motor Co., MikeRentals, Noranda, Sikeston Rotary Club, Sikeston Lions Club, Standard Democrat, Cargill Inc., Heppe's Portrait Studio, Lambert's Cafe, Class of 1972, Beggs Family Farm, Ultimate Flooring, Susie's Bake Shoppe and Regions Bank.
I would also like to extend a thank you to Jiggs Moore, Dennis Ziegenhorn and Randy Payne for helping with the event.
Again, thank you for supporting the American Cancer Society and remember, it's not too early to become involved in Relay for Life for 2006.
