SIKESTON - The Scott County R-5 and Sikeston R-6 school boards and superintendents unofficially agreed last night to wait for the Scott County School Board to submit a school reorganization plan before urging that the two districts merge.

SIKESTON - The "One Church, One Child" program was started in southeast Missouri Monday with a rally at West End Baptist Church. The guest speaker was Father George Clements, founder of the program.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's 14-15 year old Junior Babe Ruth All-Stars recently completed competition in the 1995 Junior Babe Ruth State Tournament, finishing third in the state. The team consisted of: Brent Self, Drew Dollar, Justin Pobst, Barry Johnson, Joey Seller, Tyler Trum, Wade Hamra, Matt Drake, Tim Moore, Mark Silverthorn, Matt Shelton, Clay Hooper, Derrick Driskill, Mike Davis and Jamie McCoy. The coaches were Mark Silverthorn and Steve Shelton.

KELSO - The 19th Annual Kelso Sommerfest will be held Friday and Saturday with events to include the Sommerfest queen pageant, rides and games, craft stands, homemade ice cream and arrowhead making. Contestants for the pageant include: Carrie Shoemate, Alyshia McBride, Amber Schiwitz, Rebecca Messmer, Melinda Gilpin, Heather Abner, Kara Dodson, Heather Burger, April Miller, Rachel Trammel, Holly Laws and Amanda Lomax.
