RIDGELAND, Miss. - Dr. Hobson Darney Brock Jr., 68, died Feb. 25, 2006, at Rankin Medical Center.
Born July 9, 1937, in McComb, to the late Dr. Hobson and Hazel Packwood Brock Sr., he graduated in 1955 from McComb High School. He was loved and respected by everyone he met throughout his life and was elected president of his class for four years. He looked forward to and enjoyed many reunions and especially raved about the greatest 50-year class reunion McComb had ever seen. An avid lifelong fan of Ole Miss, he graduated from Ole Miss and the University of Mississippi Medical School. After completing his internship at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., he was commissioned as a captain in the United States Army, serving with the 11th Air Assault, which became the 1st Air Cavalry, at Fort Benning, Ga. After returning from the military, he did his pediatric residency at the University of Tennesse College of Medicine (LeBonheur, Toby and St. Jude) in Memphis.
On Sept. 30, 1967, in Memphis, he met and married Miss Jane Ellen Lambert of Sikeston, Mo. They moved to Jackson in 1967, where he was in private practice with Brock, Kliesch and Yates for 25 years. At the time of his death, he was a pediatrician with Family Health Care Clinic in Brandon. He was especially grateful for his nurse of 32 years, Martha Sheppard.
Dr. Brock was a member of The American Academy of Pediatrics, Phi Chi Medical Fraternity, Phi Eta Sigma, Alpha Epsilon Delta and Pi Sigma. He served as past chief of staff for Hinds General Hospital and over the years he was on numerous boards and committees. He attended Parkway Hills United Methodist Church. Continuing a long time love of sailing, he belonged to the Jackson Yacht Club.
Survivors include: his wife, Jane, of 38 years; their sons, Chad Brock and wife, Jena, of Collierville, Tenn.; Andrew Brock of Ridgeland and Rex Alexander Brock of Ridgeland; grandchildren, Maddie Clare Brock of Collierville, Chandler Hobson Brock of Ridgeland and Charles Davidson Brock of Collierville; mother-in-law, Lucille Lambert of Madison; sister-in-law, Linda Lambert of Memphis; and a niece, Elizabeth Avery of Springfield, Va.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Brock.
Services were conducted today at Parkway Hills United Methodist Church in Madison. The Revs. David McIntosh and Richard Robbins officiated.
Burial followed in the Parkway Memorial Cemetery on Highland Colony Parkway.
