Clarkton slips past Bernie on the road

BERNIE -- The Clarkton Reindeer basketball team won the finale on Friday night at Bernie, 66-56 over the host Mules.

Clarkton trailed much of the contest as Bernie led 48-41 heading into the final quarter.

The Mules could only muster eight points in the crucial quarter, as Clarkton caught fire in the fourth, hitting for 25 points.

Junior Matt Trudell and sophomore Tolby Richardson led a balanced Clarkton scoring attack with 13 points apiece. Steven White added 12 points and sophomore Devaris Parker rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Reindeer with 11 points.

Britt Arnold had a game-high 24 points for the Mules. Doug Johnson hit five 3-pointers on his way to 17 points.

Seniors Daryl Wade and Jeremy Limbaugh combined for 47 points as Advance tuned up for district play with a win at Leopold in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Wade scored 26 -- hitting six of the Hornets-- nine 3-pointers -- and Limbaugh had 21. Senior James Masters added 12 points for the Hornets, who led 46-25 at halftime.

For Leopold, Victor Vandeven scored 12 points, Eric Seiler had 11 and Matt Stoverink scored 10.

St. Vincent broke a nine-game losing streak and tuned up for district play by beating visiting Valle Catholic.

Eric Clements scored 15 points for the Indians (9-14), whose last win had been Jan. 13 over Crystal City.

"It felt good to finally win again," St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy said.
