EAST PRAIRIE - It was a record-setting Friday afternoon at East Prairie, as the East Prairie Eagles baseball team downed the visiting Scott County Central Braves, 24-6.

The Eagles only scored their runs in one inning, but oh what an inning it was for East Prairie.

In East Prairie's 24-run second inning, the Eagles set or tied several state records for high school baseball according to the MSHSAA Records Book.

East Prairie scored the most runs in one inning with 24, the old record was 20 set by Skyline in 2000. Second, the Eagles broke the single inning plate appearances with 30 in the second. The old record of 19 was set in 1998 by Steelville.

The Eagles also broke the walks in an inning record with eight. Ritenour and Steelville set the old record at seven back in 1997 and 1999 respectively. Finally as a team, East Prairie tied the hit record for an inning with 13 hits in the second. The Eagles share the record with Holden and Greenville, who each set the record back in 1999 and 2002.

East Prairie had an individual honor as catcher Taylor White broke the state record for RBIs in an inning with eight. After an RBI single, White had a bases-

clearing double and a grand slam in the second for the Eagles. The old record of six RBIs was set in 1999 by Jake Whitesides of Columbia Hickman.

It was indeed a record-breaking second inning for East Prairie, as the team batted around four times. Of the starting nine for East Prairie, eight collected at least one hit. Five Eagles scored three runs apiece in the second.

Besides the eight RBIs by White, Mitchell Aters drove in four runs and Jordan Mansfield hit a 3-run homer, all in the second.

The Braves did light the scoreboard first, as Scott Central scored three runs in the top of the first. Caleb Johnson had an RBI single and Derek Simpson drove in a run with a sacrifice, to jumpstart the Braves.

Scott Central extended the lead in the second, as Mark Freed singled to score Toby Heeb on a bang-bang play at the plate. The Braves looked solid, leading 4-0 heading into the Eagles record-breaking bottom of the second.

Freed, Johnson and Rashaad Brown had two hits apiece for the Braves. Simpson led the Braves with three runs driven in.

East Prairie was led by White and Aters, who had three hits apiece. Caleb Hatton had two hits for the Eagles.

Tyler Branam picked up the win for East Prairie going three innings, gave up four hits, four runs, struck out seven and walked three.
