EAST PRAIRIE - James Ray "Red" Phillips, 76, died at 6 a.m. Aug. 6, 2005, at his residence in the Dogwood Community.
Born April 23, 1929, in the Dogwood Community to the late Thomas Milas and Bernetta A. "Nettie" Johnson Phillips, he lived all his life in the Dogwood Community where he was a farmer and attended the Dogwood United Methodist Church.
In September 1948 he married Nina B. Barksdale, who preceded him in death on June 16, 1989.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pam Phillips of Dogwood; one daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Gary Miller of Dogwood; two brothers, Elvin "Jack" Phillips of Dogwood and Joe Phillips of Sonora, Calif.; five sisters, Mary Douglas of Gray Lake, Mich., Christine Hackett of Burton, Mich., Winnie Stahl of Florissant, Martha Freidwald of Creve Coeur and Shirley Wagner of Sikeston; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Sharon Marie Phillips; two brothers, Harold and Marion Phillips and three sisters, Ellen Nickell, Betty Taylor and Naomi Humphreys, preceded him in death.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday. Harold Norton will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
