PERRYVILLE -- Rev. Gerald J. Brown, 78, died Nov. 2, 2005, at St. Mary's Seminary.

Born Sept. 10, 1927, at St. Louis, son of the late Alva W. and Josephine McMahon Brown, he was an ordained Roman Catholic priest. On May 22, 1957, he was ordained priest at St. Mary's of the Barrens in Perryville by Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter. He received a master's degree in Spanish from the University of Mexico in 1962. From 1964-1998 he ministered in Chile and was assigned to St. Henry Church in Charleston as pastor from July 1, 1998, to Jan. 1, 2003. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include: one brother, Thomas Brown of St. Louis; two sisters, Joan Butler and Frances B. Brown of St. Louis; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Brown rested in state at St. Mary's of the Barrens Catholic Church Friday where a funeral Mass was held Saturday.

Burial was in the Vincentian Community Cemetery with the Rev. Raymond VanDorpe officiating.
