SIKESTON - Sikeston's Police Chief Harold Wallace, and Paul Bucholz are the proud owners of Sikeston's new Fords, delivered this week.
SIKESTON - Congressman Paul Jones, Kennett Democrat, will dedicate Sikeston's new post office at 2 p.m. Sunday. Postmaster General Lawrence F. O'Brien will be represented by Harold Jinks of Piggott, Ark., special assistant. The public is invited. Postmaster Pleas Malcolm reports that the 57 employees of the post office handle 16 million pieces of mail a year.
EAST PRAIRIE - The former Shannon Hotel is being remodeled to accommodate the new quarters for the Missouri County Welfare Association. The brick quarters of the office will be taken over by the Missouri Utilities Co.
SIKESTON - The long awaited ladder truck has been delivered to the fire division of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. The truck will be on display at Monday's city council work session.
SIKESTON - Dr. Anthony Poole has been elected president of the Southeast Missouri County Medical Society. He succeeds Dr. Don Cento. who has served as president for the past year.
SIKESTON - The 1994 YMCA Barbecue Day brought the Founders Fund over the top, securing the organization's place in Sikeston. Organizers of this year's event would like to secure more programs for area residents through the YMCA of Southeast Missouri.
ORAN - Two Scott County men were wounded in a shooting which took place in Oran at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to law enforcement officials. Those injured were Mark Messmer, 23, of Chaffee and Joseph Johnson Jr., 22, of Morley. Charges are pending on a 17-year-old suspect who is presently in custody in the Scott County jail.
