BENTON - Lillian Dempster Scherer, 78, died Jan. 12, 2006, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Born Oct. 3, 1927, in Diehlstadt, daughter of the late Edwin R. and Mary Arlena Wills Dempster, she was a graduate of Diehlstadt High School.

On Feb. 10, 1948, she married Sylvester "Bud" Scherer, who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1976.

Mrs. Scherer was a deputy sheriff in Scott County for 35 years, having been commissioned by Sheriff John Dennis and Sheriff Bill Ferrell before retiring in 1990.

Survivors include: four daughters and two sons-in-law, Margaret Uhrhan of Henderson, Nev., Brenda and Bud Schiwitz and Janet Burger of Benton and Sandra and Tom Beck of Southaven, Miss.; one sister and brother-in-law, Beulah and Raymond Leible of Sikeston; six granddaughters and three great-


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today with parish prayers at 6 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Normand Varone at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Denis Catholic Church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.
