EAST PRAIRIE--The East Prairie Eagles basketball team improved in the win column on Tuesday evening, as they defeated the Oran Eagles by a score of 71-
For the home team, East Prairie, it was quite a show put on by the Jones', Ryan Jones and Tony Jones, accounting for 40 of the teams' 71 points.
Ryan Jones finished up with 18, while Tony Jones led East Prairie with 22, along with playing most of the fourth quarter in foul trouble.
"I thought that for one, both teams played extremely hard," East Prairie head coach Matt Schonhoff said.
"We've been waiting for us to play an almost complete game. Tonight in front of our home crowd--on our home court we were able to get after it defensively," he added.
"One thing that was impressive was our transition jump-shooting," he added. "We hit a lot tonight, which was very impressive for us."
East Prairie (3-3) was 10-for-16 at the free-throw line in the victory.
On the Oran end of the floor, Kody Campbell was impressive with 22 points and a 3-pointer, accumulating 15 points before the half, but his effort wasn't enough, as the Eagles shot 12-for-23 at the line.
"We just got outplayed in every aspect of the game," Oran head coach Denver Stuckey said. "From the opening tip, they wanted it more and they went out and took it. There's no excuse for the lack of effort from our team."
Up next for Oran (2-4) is a game at Delta, on Friday night, while East Prairie's next task is Chester, Ill. at the Heartland Hoopfest at Perryville on Saturday.
East Prairie's game is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. at the Perry Parks Center.
