ACORN RIDGE -- The body of a 12-year-old girl was discovered in a Stoddard County barn Sunday.
According to Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner, at 10:04 a.m. Sunday the sheriff's department responded to the vicinity of County Road 267, north of Acorn Ridge, in reference to a missing juvenile.
Following the search of the surrounding area, the female, who is from the Poplar Bluff area, was found dead in a barn near a residence. Cause of death is unknown at this time, and an autopsy is scheduled for today.
The Stoddard County Major Case Squad was activated and is currently conducting an investigation.
