DEXTER - Hershel Boyt, 91, died March 22, 2006, at the Cypress Point Health Care in Dexter.
Born Feb. 22, 1915, near Essex, son of the late John Henry and Marie Linneman Boyt, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter, a retired mechanics teacher at Sikeston Public Schools, a former airline mechanic with TWA and Ozark Airlines. A U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a former member of the Missouri National Guard and a member of the Dexter Masonic Lodge 532 and American Legion.
On Sept. 8, 1939, at Piggott, Ark., he married Kathryn Matthews, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Jim Boyt of Springfield; two daughters, Claudia Van Oostrom of Cape Girardeau and Sandy Steinkamp of St. Louis; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Boyt and Sam Boyt; and one sister, Rubel Barker.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Louis Lowe will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
