NEW MADRID - The development of the New Madrid riverfront for business, historical and recreational purposes was discussed Tuesday evening during a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce with city officials, civic and business leaders. A model of the proposed docking facility and scenic platform prepared under the direction of George House was presented to the group for review by Bill Pinnell.

SIKESTON - Nena Michelle Lorenz, the August Standard Democrat Calendar girl, is in the swim of summer. A 1995 graduate of Sikeston High School, Miss Lorenz is the daughter of Dwayne and Paula Lorenz of Sikeston and plans to attend college this fall where she will major in music and study musical performance. She was a finalist in the 1994 Miss Sikeston Contest.

SIKESTON - Members of The First General Baptist Church proved much can be accomplished when the community combines efforts. Recently the church sponsored a "Christian Day in the Park" to raise money for the Morehouse Volunteer Fire Department. The event brought in $166.
