Hayes captures first place at drag strip

SIKESTON - Jeff Hayes of Herrin, Ill. took first in the Super Pro race at the Sikeston Drag Strip on Saturday.

Hayes ran an elapsed time of 6.58 seconds and dialed in at 6.586 with a speed of 103.47 mph and a reaction time of .506 seconds.

Sam Phillips of Puxico was second. He had an elapsed time of 5.80 with a dial-in of 5.812 at 117.46 mph and a reaction time of .521.

In the Pro division, Puxico's Greg Harty won first place by posting an elapsed time of 6.62 with a 6.654 dial-in at 96.15 mph and a .540 reaction time. Darrell James of Bertrand was runner-up with a 6.67 elapsed time and a 6.833 dial-in at 99.73 mph and a .549 reaction time.

Smithland, Kent. native Gary Doom won in the ET division with an elapsed time of 8.85 and a dial-in of 8.924 at 70.87 mph and a .533 reaction time.

Richard Smith of Bloomfield finished next by running an elapsed time of 9.96 with a dial-in of 10.105 at 68.68 mph and a reaction time of .594.

In the Jr. Drag, Colton Summers of Dexter took first place, while Tyler Heim of Millersville earned second.
