Rodeo action braves heat

SIKESTON - It was another hot and muggy night at the 53rd Annual Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, but that didn't stop fans from packing into the rodeo grounds to see another round of top-notch cowboys perform.

Here are the results from Thursday night's action.

In bareback riding, Scott Montague captured first place with 86 points. He was followed by Heath Ford and Andy Martinez with 81 points apiece. Kelly Timberman took fourth with 80 points.

In saddlebronc riding, Jesse Bail took first place with 84 points. Billy Etbauer finished in second with 82 points.

Rod Hay took third with 79 points and Bradley Harter finished fourth with 78 points.

In the always-popular bullriding event, Travis Sellers took first place with 85 points.

Tate Stratton took second with 82 points followed by Fred Boettcher with 77 points.

In steer wrestling, Joel Chiffin blew away the field with a stellar finish in 5.2 seconds.

The next closest competitor was Shaun Schuld, who finished second in 14.6 seconds.

In calf roping, Cody Ohl took first in 7.4 seconds. Matt McGee followed up in 8.5 seconds.

Tom Potter took third in 9.4 seconds.

In women's barrel racing, Jennifer Wilson took first place in 16.53 seconds.

She was followed closely by Patti Jo Higdon at 16.55 seconds. Sabrina Miller took third in 16.71 seconds.

The rodeo will continue tonight and will run through Saturday night.
