PADUCAH, Ky. - Janette Baker Story, 76, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died at 3:45 p.m. Jan. 23, 2006, at the Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

Born June 25, 1929, in Poplar Bluff, she was the daughter of the late James Roy and Lucille Barker Baker. Following her graduation from Poplar Bluff High School, she continued her education at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science. She later received a master's degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University. She moved to Charleston in 1962, where she was a member of the United Methodist Church and the P.E.O. In 1975, she began teaching in the business department at Charleston High School and served as the department chairperson until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association at the Charleston Country Club. She moved in 2003 to Paducah, where she became a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church and P.E.O.

On Feb. 11, 1962, she married Albert L. Story, who preceded her in death in 1967.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen B. and Karen Harris Story of Paducah; three grandchildren, Alexander L. Story, Zachary H. Story and Kathryn M. Story, all of Paducah; and two nephews and five nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, three sisters, Lois Emily Baker, Janice Baker Shelby and Louise Baker Shadley, preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. Thursday until time for services at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Charleston. The Rev. Roger Jespersen, pastor of the Charleston United Methodist Church and the Rev. David Comperry, pastor of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Paducah, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Thomas H. Story, Ernest E. "Pete" Story, Sam Story Jr., Mark Dugan, Clay Shelby and Roy Shelby.
