SIKESTON - Mrs. Minnie Frances Masterson, 74 years old, widow of the late Henry Masterson and a resident of Sikeston for the past 56 years, died at her home today after an illness of three months.

SIKESTON - The Outstanding Cotton Producers Award went to George Shelby Jr. during the Missouri Cotton Producers Association meeting in Poplar Bluff. Missouri Sen. Edward V. Long made the presentation. The program also included outfits modeled by Sew With Cotton award winners Judy Strop of Benton winning first in the sportswear division and a bathing suit worn by Carol Gaines of New Madrid, second place.
SIKESTON - Ed Cowan led the Sikeston Community Band in marching music during the band's first summer concert at the Malone Park gazebo Tuesday night. Other community band concerts will be scheduled in July and August.
SIKESTON - A statewide petition drive is under way to increase the minimum wage and a Missouri Chamber representative will be in town Thursday to discuss the impact of such a proposal. Dan Mehan, vice president of governmental affairs for the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, will outline the impact of a proposed $2 increase in hourly wages.

NEW MADRID - The Discovery Channel is taping a one-hour documentary on natural disasters at the New Madrid Historical Museum. New Madrid native Kara Benjamin, calligrapher and now actress, is in the documentary.
