SIKESTON - Mrs. F.S. Winford of Memphis was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Horne during the Labor Day holidays. Lucille and Dorothy Lee Thompson of Charleston were at their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Matthews Tuesday.

SIKESTON - The Junior Chamber of Commerce held a meeting yesterday at noon in the Rustic Rock with 34 Sikeston businessmen present to get a drive under way to raise $30,000 for the site of the mental retardation center.

SIKESTON - Ben Bryant and Fara McDonald of Sikeston earned No. 1 Missouri bike plates last weekend in the Missouri bicycle motocross series races in Sikeston. Bryant won top honors in the 8-year-old Expert class and McDonald took the top prize in the 14-15 Girls when the Optimist Cottonmouth Supercross Track hosted a state series race Saturday and the Missouri Grand Finale Saturday with about 220 riders competing.

SIKESTON - The YMCA of Southeast Missouri celebrated the awarding of its YMCA Charter from the National YMCA and the opening of its new office on Wednesday. Jeff Partidge, local director, cut the ribbon as the charter was presented by Steve Meler, MRC director for the YMCA of Great St. Louis, to Richard Montgomery, vice president of the local YMCA board.


SIKESTON - For Sikeston's Bill Lawson, Thursday's game between the Bulldogs and Notre Dame was a little less than satisfying, but not a total disappointment. "For about the first 40 minutes, we played the kind of ball we wanted to play," said Lawson, who coaches the Sikeston Bulldogs soccer team. The final score ended up being a 5-2 loss for Sikeston.
