SIKESTON -General Lufcy is suffering from a badly mangled foot, the injury coming from a piece of machinery falling on his left foot last Saturday morning while working at the International Shoe Factory.

SIKESTON - The third quarterly meeting of the Delta Scottish Rites Club will be held in the Sikeston Masonic Temple Saturday. It will be open to the public. A film, "In the Hearts of Men" will be shown.


SIKESTON - The Lions Club viewed yesterday at the Holiday Inn a movie of the 40 members at work. The color film was made by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bussey.

NEW MADRID - A second election to determine if the New Madrid County R-1 School District will be divided may take place as soon as February. Arthur Mallory, Missouri commissioner of education, said his office has received the petitions for the election, which is being sought by residents of Portageville. The petitions have been turned over to the county clerks in Pemiscot and New Madrid counties to verify signatures.


SIKESTON - About 150 Brownies and Girl Scouts spooked downtown businesses Sunday afternoon in the Fourth Annual Girl Scout Window Painting Project. The event involves troops from throughout the Six Star Neighborhood.

BENTON - High winds and dry conditions created a tense situation as fire moved near Kelly Schools Thursday afternoon. The fire, first reported at 12:

38 Thursday, burned about 40 to 50 acres along County Road 506. Fire departments from Blodgett, Morley, Oran, Scott City, Scott County Rural, N-B-

C, Miner and Sikeston were called to the scene as the blaze was spread by high winds, sweeping the fire through the dry field grass. Kelly Elementary removed students from the building.
