SIKESTON - Mayor Kendall Sikes today proclaimed Boy Scout Week in Sikeston. The highlight of the week, which began today, will be a takeover of city offices Saturday by the Scouts.
SIKESTON - The high school Mixed Chorus and the Moderne Chorale will present their annual winter concert Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the junior high school auditorium. There will be 125 participating. The groups are under the direction of Gordon Beaver and will be accompanied by Jeannie Winters and Becky Wagner.
SIKESTON - Today is the first day that The Daily Standard Survey will appear in the newspaper. The survey, which gives readers an opportunity to evaluate the newspaper's features, has attracted a good response.
EAST PRAIRIE - The second Miss Mississippi County Scholarship Pageant is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the East Prairie High School auditorium, according to Carl Cox and Ken Bowlin, co-chairmen of the event. Ken Shields of Sikeston will serve as master of ceremonies and also provide vocal solos.
SIKESTON - Today there is $100,000 available for the purchase of new monitors for Missouri Delta Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit. The fund drive was initiated last October by Welton and Louise O'Bannon of New Madrid who offered a challenge - they would match dollar for dollar any donation for the ICU monitors up to $50,000. For the past three years, the O'Bannons have been primary benefactors of MDMC, including providing a beneficiary deed of their farmland in New Madrid County and over $100,000 in cash donations.
