SIKESTON - Miss Bettye Ruth Limbaugh entertained with a rehearsal party Wednesday night for the Putnam-Vandivort wedding party.
CHARLESTON - A pumping station to drain the northeastern corner of Mississippi County will be constructed if voters in levee district No. 3 approve a $300,000 bond issue July 27. The voting will be at a special meeting of landowners in the levee district at 10 a.m. at the Wyatt Elementary School.

SIKESTON - City Manager Bob Knabel returned this weekend from a seven-
day industrial trip to Japan. While there, the city manager met with several industrial and company leaders in hopes of interesting them in what Sikeston and surrounding Southeast Missouri has to offer. He met with leading Japanese exporters including Honda and Mitsubishi. He and other Missouri visitors also met with members of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and industry, which, according to Knabel, is instrumental in contacting smaller companies that are interested in locating in the United States.
KELLY AIR FORCE BASE, Texas - Air Force Senior Airman James L. Backfisch has been deployed on a six-month duty assignment with Joint Task Force Provide Promise, headquartered at Camp Pleso, Zagreb, Croatia, the former Republic of Yugoslavia. The Joint Task Force is the U.S. contingent participating in the United Nations peace keeping mission. Backfisch, a law enforcement specialist/desk sergeant, is the son of Harold J. and Brenda G. Backfisch of Benton.

WASHINGTON - Seventy-three high school juniors participated in Missouri's 32nd annual Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. Local delegates included Timothy Crader, Amy Wilton and Kristina Jenkins of Advance. They were sponsored by the Scott-New Madrid-Mississippi Electric Cooperative.
