SIKESTON - During the next several weeks the Sikeston Department of Public Safety will increase traffic enforcement areas in and around the city. This is in response to public interest, favorable weather conditions and increased traffic, authorities said.
The Department will conduct checkpoints in the community. Most of these checkpoints will be centered in and around the main points of entering and exiting the city.
The checkpoints are designed to check for: driver's license, seat belts, insurance cards and sobriety. Sikeston DPS officials stated it is not their goal to inconvenience anyone for a long period of time, but to keep the motoring public as safe as possible. They encourage everyone to take their time, drive safely, buckle up and most of all, to not drive while they are impaired.
