SpeakOut 3/2

Call 471-6636

I'm calling about the caller who said they would hide their son or daughter before they would let them fight in Bush's war. May I remind him this is not Bush's war, it's America's war. What would have happened when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor? Should we have backed out of that also? What about Germany and Korea? Should we have backed out of that also like the Democrats believe? Democrats have never been able in a time of war. As far as your son and daughter, keeping them hid to keep from fighting Bush's war, with a father like you we wouldn't want them over there to begin with.

Have you ever noticed when you read SpeakOut how some of these people come back with a comment. It must fit them right down to the tee because some other people don't want to be embarrassed if they mention it to them.

This is in response to the Teacher strikes back in SpeakOut Feb. 17. The teacher suggests that parents home school their problem causing children because they do not want to take the state mandated workshops to learn steps and strategies to teach them. As a parent, I did exactly that five years ago. I pulled my son out of public school in the fifth grade after he suffered eight months of abuse at the hands of his teachers, principal and office staff. I home schooled him, and with much encouragement and counseling, he has finally reached the point emotionally that he carries no resentment and harbors no serious scars from what happened. As teachers, if these people do not care enough about our children's futures to make sure they are adequately providing what they need academically, then they should stay at home. Ironically, the teachers called us whiners. If you read their comment carefully, it rather sounds like whining to me.

This is in reference to the SpeakOut, Teacher strikes back. I'm looking at this teacher's comment and I don't think this person should be a teacher. All teachers should not complain about the workshops. If the workshop is to help the teacher better our education for our children, then the teacher should be more than willing to go and not complaining their self. I understand some of the parent's issues of the workshops because they work all day and can't be there when their kids get out. If they do have workshops, is there a way the State can have it on a Saturday so the kids will have a full day of school? As for the teacher saying parents should home school, I thought you became a teacher because you wanted to teach students and help them to learn and you cared about education. You sound like you're just there to get a paycheck. It's not very polite to tell people that you don't mind if we home school our children because they're probably the ones causing problems in the first place. We need teachers that will go out of their way to help children. Some of them should watch the Freedom Writer movie. It is based on a true event. Maybe you can learn what one woman did for a classroom of children that are worse than ones you'll ever have in Sikeston. If this is the way teachers think in Sikeston, then the whole system should be shut down and all students home schooled. I'm a mother of five boys and I don't want no teacher that thinks like this teaching my children.
