Born July 26, 1920, in Essex, to the late Callie and Pearl Ellis Grubbs, he attended Sweet Prospect General Baptist Church. A former carpet layer for 23 years with Morgan Furniture in Dexter, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.
On Dec. 20, 1944, in Piggott, Ark., he married Mildred Edge, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: five sons, Farrell Grubbs of Puxico, Darrell Grubbs of Sikeston, Gary Grubbs of Campbell, Keith Grubbs of Dexter and Randy Grubbs of Bloomfield; three daughters, Kathleen Dover, Linda Campbell and Carol Hutchcraft, all of Dexter; one brother, Jake Grubbs of Dexter; and 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Grubbs; two brothers, Loyd Grubbs and Oakley Grubbs; and three sisters, Theda Reynolds, Edna Williamson and Polly Ross.
Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Dean Williams will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
