Born Nov. 26, 1938, at Dexter, to the late James H. and Alice Rebecca Aarant Carney, he had worked as a meat packer and had been a manager of the Astro Bowl in Dexter. A former building inspector for the City of Dexter, he was of the Baptist belief.
Survivors include: two sons, Paul D. Carney of St. Peters and Nathan D. Carney of Kansas City, Kan.; one daughter, Jamie McLane of McKinney, Texas; one brother, Kenneth L. Carney of Bloomfield; three sisters, Phyllis Stewart of Dexter, Brenda Eldred of Springfield and Rebecca Carney Stuart of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Carney; and one sister, Linda Fulkerson.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday with Dr. John Carney officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
